The ceremony and message of the Dakar Rally 2013

Sunday January 20: Santiago

A lot happened during the race. Each racer experienced his own Dakar story. Some of them were happy other even tragic, but this was exceptional for this year. At the start were four cars in which were former soldiers who have suffered in Afghanistan serious injuries and had to undergo amputation of limbs. Their extreme project should aim to involve people with disabilities in the most difficult rally and also confirm the main ideas of Dakar Rally – fascinating people skills and a huge will can overcome all obstacles. 
  
8570 km on the road drove only one of these four crews. Matthew O’Hara, man at the wheel of the Bowler number 445 explains: “We had not only easy day at the rally. It’s unbelievable that we managed to get to the finish.” “I am happy when at least one of our cars is at the finish,” continues the founder of the project Antony Harry, which also left his left leg in the war. “It’s the culmination of two and half years project and work. Today I experienced the most beautiful emotion in the last three years. We wanted to show everyone that, despite our handicaps we can do great things and that success depends primarily on the will. Thanks to this effort and everything we found an incredible new world: the unbelievable atmosphere of the bivouac and of course the atmosphere trough the race with all the people, who understood our reason for this and supported us! It is simply amazing! I know this storyline is still not finished now... The message of Dakar race is to never forget, that your life is still in front of you and that it is funny and incredible!” 

Dakar 2013 today ends. We have driven it with pride, big heart and will to win. We also have lived our personal big race and have overcome ourselves, the technic and all the pitfall on the road...
